Nutritional Presentation.

2 Great presentations by Andrea Murray on Wed morning and evening.

Following is a brief synopsis of the talk.

Without doubt the biggest challenge for most was breakfast for individuals and families. Unfortunately the most popular food source is cereals which are laced with sugar. Except for sugar free muesli and a couple of  Kelkin cereals the advice was to steer clear. Try a cycle of egg based options, boiled, poached, scrambled and omelettes. Put on a good rye, spelt or wholegrain bread. Fruit salad with berries and full fat Greek yogurt.

The “biggey” was sugar which is hidden in so many products and causing chaos with our bodies. Obesity, diabetes cardio vascular disease and various types of cancer.

Best advice is to buy individual items like meats, fish, poultry, veg, fruit etc from local or supermarket butchers and veg stores. Don’t buy ready made meals or anything tampered with to give taste and longer shelf life. Fast take away foods are lethal. Read the ingredients and if you can’t pronounce it don’t buy. Also avoid anything with ingredients that end with “ose” like fructose and also syrups.

Andrea explained the importance of eating sufficient amounts of protein before and after training. Depending on the time of day it’s important to be fuelled up before workouts. A small snack of nuts and fruit an hour before and maybe a strong coffee should give you enough energy for optimum performance. And most importantly a good mixture of protein and carbs within an hour of training. A good protein powder is an ideal and quick way to get refuelled.

Fizzy drinks and juices are literally swimming with sugar 11 teaspoons in the average can. You would have to walk 3 miles to burn it off. And unfortunately choosing a diet option is even worse. All contain artificial sweeteners which contain chemicals such as chlorine.

So there’s enough for you to work on for now.

Please please ask for help on nutrition. It breaks my heart to see so many people busting a gut during workouts and getting poor results due to bad nutritional habits. Small gradual changes can make huge differences.
